About Us

We are …

Visionary.
Bold.
Innovative.

Lab1886: we are creating new business opportunities for Daimler AG.

Our Vision

We are the stage for game-changing business.

The automobile industry is in a time of new departures. Four megatrends are poised to revolutionise the sector: connectivity, sharing, autonomous driving and electric drive.

As one of the largest car manufacturers in the world, Daimler AG has played a pioneering role in all of these areas. It is now time to exploit this advantage and take pole position as an innovation leader for the future as well– with disruptive and unconventional ideas. Yet: how can a good idea become a business model, a new company? How can talents realise their visions? And how can a big corporation offer an environment to entrepreneurs that is as attractive as a start-up?

Daimler AG has taken on this challenge with the foundation of Lab1886 in Stuttgart in 2017: here the ideas of employees fall on fertile ground. They will find ideal conditions, a breeding ground in which to develop their new business models.

We are …

located in Berlin & Stuttgart.

We have opened our Labs where creativity and technology meets.

One Lab.
Two Hotspots.

Stuttgart

The beating heart of mobility.

Berlin

Start-up metropolis.

Together for the future of mobility.

Two locations with a combined high standard of performance. The teams in Stuttgart and Berlin each have different areas of expertise. Thanks to their close cooperation, they complement and push each other. New mobility ideas are emerging in Stuttgart, while in Berlin, actual horsepower has been deployed on the streets. Here, projects outside of complex corporate structures are managed through the validation phase and beyond, with the aim of implementing them as quickly as possible. This also includes unconventional solutions, provided it makes sense to do so. Anything is possible. After all, our locations have something very important in common: values and culture. We are not afraid of making mistakes – they are the best opportunity we have to learn.

  • Direct connection to the start-up scene and other innovation hubs
  • Application of the latest state-of-the-art methodologies to enable quick evaluation of the feasibility, profitability and viability of new ideas
  • Leveraging string collaboration and co-location of product, design and engineering teams

Stuttgart

The beating heart of mobility

Why Stuttgart? What is it about the city in the valley? Of course, the three-pointed star has its allure – it not only towers above the railway building but also has numerous business satellites in its orbit. Yet always nice and relaxed – just like the Stuttgart lifestyle. A potpourri: here you can mess about and slog away. From Weindorf to Wasen, from Wilhelma to Waldau, before relaxing after work in the green surroundings of the Schlossplatz – Stuttgart has plenty to offer. In the heart of the little big city, Lab1886 turns innovations into reality: engineering and hardware are central – but never too far from mobility.

Are you ready for the Swabian metropolis? Show us your ability to get things moving, become a pioneer!

Berlin

Start-up metropolis

Berlin: Creative testing, varied lateral thinking and a hotbed for innovation. Dreams of the future are played out here from Kreuzberg to Neukölln, from Wedding to Charlottenburg. In the start-up metropolis, entrepreneurial spirit and business punk meet vegan rock stars and sweater-wearing full-time fathers. A pulsating powder keg that allows room for vision and innovation. People with business ideas, with a quirky nature, newcomers, veterans and unconventional thinkers feel right at home here. Its adventurous cultural scene – an ecosystem that is free from prejudice and stereotypical thinking – offers you a blank sheet of paper. Clear the stage for your show.

Do you think digitally and outside the box? At Lab1886’s base in Berlin, there is a hive of software solutions, ideas and innovative technologies around every corner.
